Matthew B. Steinberg

Mr. Steinberg graduated from law school in 1995. Immediately after law school he joined the United States Navy as a Staff Judge Advocate, where he served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Trial Service Office Southeast detachment in Jacksonville, Florida. In this role, he was responsible for prosecuting criminal cases involving military members and providing command support and guidance. Mr. Steinberg also prosecuted cases involving arson, murder, drug use, embezzlement, misrepresentation, rape, and assault.

After leaving the military, Mr. Steinberg joined a small firm located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he focused on civil litigation for both plaintiff and defense cases, including cases involving insurance bad faith, nursing home and medical malpractice, and products liability. After two years, Mr. Steinberg transitioned to a senior associate role at Frost Brown Todd, a large regional law firm in Louisville, Kentucky. He continued his practice defending cases involving a variety of complex litigation, including medical malpractice, nursing home defense, insurance bad faith, auto liability, and other premises liability matters.

In 2001, Mr. Steinberg joined a national healthcare system located in Louisville, Kentucky, where he stayed for 21 years. During his tenure, Mr. Steinberg held several senior-level positions, including director and counsel of liability claims, where he oversaw the management of claims and provided legal guidance. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Senior Vice President of Litigation, leading the company's litigation practices and serving as the in-house Deputy General Counsel. In this capacity, he managed a team of lawyers, claims handlers, paralegals, and administrative staff, working closely with the Chief Compliance office to ensure compliance investigations and audits were conducted effectively. He also worked on a myriad of complex commercial disputes including, but not limited to, breach of contract, lease disputes, unfair business practice claims, alleged anti-trust claims, property damage disputes, and claimed breach of privacy claims.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Steinberg acted as the primary point of contact for federal and state agencies, such as the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Office of Inspector General (OIG). He also managed over 799 cases across a wide range of areas, including medical malpractice, class actions, stockholder derivative suits, appraisal rights actions, anti-trust litigation, investigations for alleged False Claims and Anti-Kickbacks, commercial disputes, insurance matters, and collection actions. Moreover, he provided legal oversight for privacy regulations, including HIPAA, HITECH, CCPA, and other state-specific regulations.

After leaving Kindred, Mr. Steinberg joined the law firm of Quintairos Prieto Wood & Boyer as the Co-Managing Partner in their Lexington, Kentucky office. In this capacity, Mr. Steinberg served as lead counsel for cases involving nursing home negligence, product liability, premises liability, corporate transactions, and regulatory compliance, among other matters.
