Many people think that elder abuse in nursing homes is a problem that they have little control over – it happens while they aren’t there and they aren’t always told about an incident – and if they are aware of elder abuse, they don’t know what they can do. Like so many things, stopping the problem starts with prevention:
- Visit your relative consistently.
- Request financial reviews.
- Hold staff accountable for your loved one’s care.
- Help to raise awareness.
- Always make sure you report suspicious activity.
