Imperial Valley Press Reports on Elder Abuse Lawsuit Against Imperial Heights Healthcare & Wellness Centre
As published in Imperial Valley Press, Garcia, Artigliere & Medby filed a lawsuit against Imperial Heights Healthcare & Wellness Centre for elder abuse, and negligent hiring supervision on behalf of the family of Guillermo Espinosa.
Espinosa was admitted to Imperial Heights Healthcare & Wellness Centre for rehabilitation after spending nearly a month in a coma and for the purpose of putting in place interventions to prevent further deadly falls. While at Imperial Heights Healthcare & Wellness Centre, Espinosa suffered multiple falls, including one that resulted in a laceration on the back of the head.
The lawsuit states that the sores were concealed by the facility staff using excessive bandaging, which were not removed until the ulcers became infected and emitted an odor. Espinosa was transferred to Pioneers Memorial Hospital where his family was informed that he had developed a blood infection requiring amputation of both legs. Espinosa could not overcome his injuries and passed away.
