Deadline Hollywood Reports on Sexual Assault & Elder Abuse Lawsuits Against Motion Picture & Television Fund
As published in Deadline Hollywood, Garcia Artigliere & Medby filed a lawsuit against Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) for elder abuse, health and safety code violations, Consumer Legal Remedies Act violations, and assault and battery on behalf of plaintiff and resident, Nancy Renard.
During her stay at MPTF, Renard was sexually assaulted by a fellow male resident who is suspected to have accosted as many as 13 female residents at the facility, exposed himself in an aggressive manner to at least two staff on two separate occasions, and entered uninvited into the rooms of an additional nine female residents within a four-month period.
As further reported, Garcia, Artigliere & Medby filed a separate lawsuit against MPTF on behalf of resident Sylvia Mathes, who was allegedly physically assaulted by the same male resident. The lawsuit states that the facility’s response to address these known issues was to begin a campaign of chemically sedating and restraining the male resident rather than putting proper interventions into place, such as additional staff, which would have cut into MPTF’s financial bottom line.
