Fire trucks can cause traffic accidents

Archives, Trucking Accidents

Did you know – Fire trucks, as they head to a burning building, often speed along the road; they are designed to speed to their destination.  On their way, they are legally allowed to run red lights.  State law requires all vehicles on the road to give fire trucks the right of way – they need to pull over to the side of the road when a fire truck is coming.  The unfortunate news is that some people do not follow these rules and can cause accidents.

Oftentimes, firefighters do not get adequate truck driving training.  They need to know how to deal with excessive speeds that are required to get to an emergency.  Drivers without this extra training, more than likely will cause an accident.

Finally, fire trucks are very long and loaded with all sorts of life-saving equipment. Some trucks weigh as much as 20 tons.  A firefighter needs to be experienced and trained in order to navigate a fire truck.  My advice to you – If you see a fire truck speeding down the street – get out of its way –  the life they are about to save may be someone you know and love.
