Federal trucking regulations
Just as a reminder, a trucking company and driver are responsible for making sure the truck driven is in good condition and all parts are working correctly.
Federal Trucking Regulation 49 C.F.R. § 396 applies to commercial trucks that carry more than 15 people, transport hazardous cargo and/or weigh more than 10,000 pounds. In part, it states, “The motor carrier is responsible for ensuring that all parts are in proper working condition and must maintain and keep repair and inspection records. A driver cannot operate a vehicle that is likely to break down or cause an accident. Drivers must inspect their trucks at the start of each day and report any defects.”
Remember – a truck in good running condition is a safe truck.
