Cortez Bridge closed because of a truck accident
According to Bradenton Beach Police, the cab of a tractor-trailer was hanging over the guardrail of the Cortez Bridge mid morning the other day; it was extremely close to falling into the water – but did not. This was the result of the 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle sideswiping each other earlier.
The driver of the truck was able to get out safely. Neither driver could give good details about what happened. The airbags in the passenger vehicle deployed but the driver was not seriously hurt. Medical personnel treated him at the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. The bridge closed down for a few hours until officers could make sure it was safe to travel on and to remove the tractor-trailer.
