Garcia & Artigliere File Lawsuit Against Grancell Village

Garcia & Artigliere

Garcia & Artigliere filed a lawsuit against Grancell Village of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging (Grancell Village) on behalf of Lynne Berger for elder abuse and negligence, alleging the facility disregarded state laws and willingly put their patients at risk in order to achieve financial gain.

The lawsuit alleges that Ms. Berger sustained serious injuries due to inadequate staffing at Grancell Village, wrongfully withholding the proper care and medical devices necessary to treat Ms. Berger, and failing to report any changes in Ms. Berger’s condition in order to properly prevent falls.

In addition, the facility claimed “non-profit” corporate status, yet was illegally siphoning money to the facility’s management team. The lawsuit alleges that the facility paid a fictitious medical center more than $1,000,000 for “dietary services”, but these funds were instead used to increase the pay of the facility’s management team without forfeiting their status as a “non-profit” corporation.

While in the care of Grancell Village, Ms. Berger suffered a serious fall while left unattended in a broken wheelchair. Not only did the staff at the facility neglect to call an ambulance for over two hours after the accident, the staff also failed to perform the necessary neuro checks on Ms. Berger and withheld information regarding this accident from her physician.

“I have never encountered a facility as greedy and unethical as Grancell Village,” said Stephen Garcia, lead attorney with Garcia & Artigliere. “The fact that they are subjecting their patients to numerous health risks for their own personal gain cannot, and will not, be ignored.”
