Florida Truckers Needs to Stop Texting While Driving
Distracted driving has proven to be one of the main causes, right up there with drunk driving and speeding, of truck accidents in Florida with approximately 6,000 motorists killed each year and about a half a million injured. Florida is one of the few states that still have not enacted a ban on texting while driving. The Federal government wants to see all states enforce a ban on texting.
If this takes place, the new law will prohibit all truckers from texting while transporting hazardous materials. In addition, it will be illegal for all truckers to text while driving. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said at a recent summit, “We are taking action on a number of fronts to address the epidemic of distracted driving in America. With the help of the experts, policymakers, and safety advocates we’ve assembled here, we are going to do everything we can to put an end to distracted driving and save lives.”
Many companies in the United States are promoting anti-distracted-driving policies to keep our roads safe.
