Florida's New Truck Law
Effective July 2010, Florida has a new truck law allowing commercial trucks to carry 8,000 more pounds of cargo. Trucks can now weigh as much as 88,000 pounds. The U.S. Department of Transportation did a study that showed adding this much more weight can make a truck more difficult to control.
Some are saying that the heavier trucks will be more dangerous for other motorists – while the trucking industry says the choice is either larger trucks or more trucks on Florida roads. The Auto Club agrees that heavier trucks are more dangerous, stating that they are involved in 11% of fatal crashes on the road. The trucking industry says more trucks cause more congestion and that is a serious safety concern.
As a reminder, always drive safe and look out for other motorists on the road – do not be a negligent driver.
