Commercial Trucks and Drugs/Alcohol

Garcia & Artigliere

All truck companies must test their drivers for drugs and/or alcohol before allowing them to take to the road. They also must investigate to see if their drivers ever had a drug or alcohol problem in the past. It is unfortunate that some companies do not perform appropriate background checks. As a result, unsafe drivers are on our roads driving 70,000-pound trucks.

Recently, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration discovered that about 100 trucking companies were in violation of safety regulations relating to alcohol and/or drug use – these drivers stopped driving temporarily.

It is sad to think that drivers violate safety regulations, and unsafe truck drivers are on Florida highways. If you have been involved in an accident with a commercial vehicle, and you suspect the truck driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, consult an attorney experienced with drug or alcohol related semi truck accidents. The truck driver may not be the only party at fault.
